HOPE HAVEN WORKS! AT JUMPIN’ JAX HOUSE OF FOOD
Beth had goals: get a job, move into an apartment on her own and become independent. Donald is also seeking independence while attending Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) part-time.
Two years ago, Beth, a Hope Haven client, was hired to perform food preparation at Jumpin' Jax House of Food on San Jose Boulevard. Troy, the manager, provided several job coaching and feedback sessions, but he didn't think Beth was ready for that position and offered her a dishwasher position instead. She was very excited!
After working at Jumpin' Jax for a few months, she found an apartment downtown. She manages her bus work commute, is proud of her achievements, and her self-confidence keeps growing. She has also worked at the Jumpin’ Jax downtown location.
When Donald, another Hope Haven client, decided he wanted to be a dishwasher, he worked for two weeks at a diner, but the owners sold the business so he was once again looking for a dishwashing position.
Jan, job coach for Employment and Transition Services at Hope Haven, called Troy, and took Donald for an interview at Jumpin' Jax. Good managers like Troy want new hires to be both a good fit and productive. Since he was very pleased with Beth's work, he didn't hesitate to offer Donald an on-the-job training position. On his first night, Troy introduced him to Beth, who would be his trainer.

As Donald’s trainer, Beth is proud of how far she’s come in the past two years. She says she wants to help Donald be successful, too.
Jumpin' Jax says they "promote the best food, quality ingredients, and an even better environment." It has really been a great working environment for two determined and independent Hope Haven clients.
